I remember reading a book called The Red Tentby Anita Diamont and being mesmerized. It recounted the tale of a little-known woman from the Bible and her experiences, all reflected through the image of the red tent. Her tribe was nomadic and wherever they set up camp, the red tent was erected as a sacred space for women to care for other women with regard to the cycles of a women’s life, menstruation and birth. I, like many—the book became a bestseller—was enamoured of the idea that there could be a space carved out specifically to respectfully support and nurture a women’s biological processes.
For me, menstruation, most especially when I was a young girl, was still a taboo topic. Women got their periods and announced the news with veiled references like, “George arrived” or “ Aunt Mary is coming to visit.” We didn’t speak openly about monthly bleeding and we certainly didn’t have a red tent to go to for comfort.
I, personally, had terrible periods: long, intense, heavy, often interfering with activities and destroying sheets, towels, underwear and the pocket book. As I grew up I found out the pill could be used not only as a contraceptive, but to reduce and relieve many of the symptoms I was dealing with, so it became my option of choice. I spoke with friends who struggled with similar issues. Some had fibroids, endometriosis or ovarian cysts. Many had acne as well as intense cramping and pain that made them want to jump under the covers with a hot water bottle.
Fast forward several years after a lot of education and life experience and I found myself in the position of being a mum and, concerned about my health, deciding I did not want to use the pill to control my hormonal imbalances. I didn’t really know there were options until I understood estrogen dominance. Estrogen helps us to grow breasts, it makes us juicy and in a perfect world, each month we would shed our blood in a painless and not hemorrhagic manner. Many of the products that we use on our bodies are full of the estrogens and that this can contribute to our problem. On top of that, some of us are just genetically super juicy (check out http://www.ewg.org to find out if products you are using are contributing to the problem).
Luckily, I found out about a product called Estrosense, designed to help our bodies to deal with excess estrogen through detoxification and liver cleansing. It doesn’t get rid of the estrogen that we need, it just helps our bodies to use it more efficiently. In doing so, Estrosense can help deal with many of the PMS symptoms we hate such as acne, excessive bleeding, fibroids, ovarian cysts, mood swings, etc. Using Estrosense is not an overnight miracle. I found it took two cycles to really make a difference and then I was able to go through a period without feeling like I should take shares out in Depends. It is also phenomenal at dealing with hormonal acne- and yes, it is safe for boys too. In fact, there are quite a group of young men that would attest to its pimple-reducing qualities. Estrosense contains no hormones at all - it just helps the body to process male or female hormones more efficiently so it is a great go-to for all teenagers struggling with zits.
